[That's right, polyglot.]

It's a kyber crystal. It's...not quite alive or intelligent, the way people are, but it's, hmm, spiritually alive? Very attuned to the Force. It can act as a focus of the Force sensitive person's connection to the Force. Every crystal is a little different, and may or may not match, um, optimally with a particular person.

Once the oldest traditions for Force using sects, including the Jedi, is going to a place where there's a concentration of kyber crystal as a rite of passage. The Force acts in special ways in those sorts of places. Draws out hopes and fears. Shows connections. Gives visions to people not prone to visions most of the time.

Whatever your experience is, the idea is the ordeal can bring you to a crystal you're suited to.

That day, I'd already had visions of fears that felt completely real. Talking to Yoda was just the last bit.

Oh, and for Jedi, the kyber you get is traditionally the heart and focus of your lightsaber.

Well, there's something kind of beautiful about it. Growing up is all about hope and fear, isn't it?

[Said like some kind of expert, at the ripe, old age of twenty one...]

Does that mean that Luke and the others did the same thing too? Maul? Savage?

You know those three specifically? I honestly don't know.

Sith...do it differently, anyway. They, um, usually bombard their crystals with emotions meant to bend it to their will. 'Bleeding', it's usually called. That's what turns them their lightsabers red.

[She purses her lips. And then nods.]

That...that sounds like something Maul or Savage would do, yeah.

[He shrugs, helplessly, with a not-smile.]

Yeah. Crystals that have been bled like that can be...healed, too. I don't know exactly how it works, aside from, I assume, the general inverse? Acceptance?

I don't know.

It's still incredible to me that a living body can heal, let alone a crystal.

Huh. Objectively, I guess that is pretty amazing.

Do you still have your crystal?

Um. No. Not...that one.

Uh. Anakin shattered my first 'saber. Darth Vader, I mean. When I was sixteen.

So what did you do?

Well, my current one came from storage at the main Jedi Temple on Coruscant, with the Council's blessing.

Except I was there about 900 years before the Empire was formed. Uh. There were a couple of groups of aliens we were in contact with, in Temba. They claimed they couldn't send us all home, but sometimes they would send all of us to random places.

[She blinks, trying very hard to follow that.]

Right? Well, everyone at the Temple was very kind. They gave the strange group of Jedi refugees a lot of gifts.

Even if they were not quite sure what to make of Master Kenobi fussing over Padmé when she went into labor.

Well, as I understand it, for Humans, it's quite the ordeal.

It..can be, yes. He had good reasons to worry.

[He closes his eyes and swallows.]

[He shakes pensive (with a hint of angry) moment off.]

At any rate, since Anakin wasn't there, and Obi-wan was, bystanders definitely made assumptions. Which was just a little funny.

I'm...not sure I understand what you mean.

Well, it's only kinda funny because we went back to Temba he was definitely co-parenting with Padme. But a lot of people assumed he was the birth father, too.

Yes, I can see how that would be awkward. As I understand it, Jedi aren't supposed to do that?

Eh. As far as I know, there's never been a hard and fast rule. And certainly not one of strict celibacy. The Grandmaster at the temple tried to offer Obi-wan congratulations, and she seemed like she was mostly curious and amused?

So I'd say...rare enough to be notable. Gossip worthy.

Obi-Wan doesn't seem like the type who would enjoy gossip. Much less being at the center of it.

A lady of the court once told me gossip is just a way to show that you care about someone.

Hmm, seems like that would depend on the person and their intent to me. But yeah, gossip doesn't have to be bad.
