Ariadne, a.k.a. Airy
20 / Female / Legend
I'M THE ONLY ALASTRIAN IN FOLKMORE, PLEASE ASK ME MORE

I'm looking for...: Love. I'll never admit it out loud, but I am. It's a little confusing.

If I form a Familiar Bond with you, you should expect...: A lot of uncertainty. The truth is that I don't know what I'm doing and don't feel worthy of forming bonds with anyone.

Being with me is like...: Hanging out with an excitable twelve-year-old, really. I ask a lot of questions.

What I love the most is...: Music. And also bread. I have an unnatural love for bread.

What I hate the most is...: Murder. Murder is pretty bad. I don't like genocide much either. Or rape. Or maiming. Really, most unjustified violence.

Towards my role, I feel...: Confused. I'm no hero, and I don't understand why anyone would think I was. Alastrians are familiars, mostly.

I believe my true potential is...: Unknowable. I don't know how to exist in a world where it's okay to be Alastrian. I wish I did.

Ariadne's House

Ariadne's home is located in Leshy, at number 501. It's a high tree house, with a spiral staircase winding up the trunk. The inside is a bit bigger than it appears on the outside, with room for a bedroom, kitchen, and little seating area. On the ground below is an herb garden. Marking the spot is a maypole, coiled with ribbons of different colors. © tessisamess

★ Character Information ★
Character Name: Ariadne
Character Age: Nineteen
Character Species: Ariadne is an Alastrian, considered a "demonoid" race in her realm, because Alastrians are born with wings, in addition to their arms and legs. Ariadne actually sacrificed her wings at the age of ten, in order to pass for human, but those will be coming back with her as a Legend. Compared to humanoids, Alastrians have heightened senses, but their strength is tied to their hair--which is often traded as a luxury good. Alastrians are green-skinned, with pastel hair and gray eyes. Their blood is lavender. About one-third of the population can alter their appearance to blend in with humanoids. The origins of the Alastrian race are shrouded in mystery and somewhat lost to time. Most scholars seem to believe that they evolved from reptiles, possibly dragons or chameleons. Although an unpopular theory, there is some support for the belief that the Alastrians might also be partly descended from Elves. All Elves are born with blue eyes. All Alastrians are born with gray. The theory also suggests that the magical properties of Alastrian hair might hint at some partly-Elvish ancestry. But any talk of a relationship between the Alastrians and Elves is whispered in dark corners. More on Alastrian history and biology can be found here. It's very long, so I didn't want to copy the whole thing into the app.
Current Health: Perfectly healthy.
Outfit: Ariadne will arrive wearing gray, leather leggings, brown leather books that rise to just around the knee, a red tunic with short sleeves and a cut-out back, a brown leather jacket, brown leather gloves, a bronze arm cuff shaped like a curling vine, a leather thong in her hair, and a leather pack slung over one shoulder.

On your Blessed Day this month, your Patron Pthumerian will bless you with the Phial of Argonaut. This phial is unbreakable and cannot be opened. The contents within is the pure essence of Argonaut and serves as a beacon of hope when times are dark...Literally! When you feel hopeless and lost, take out this phial and not only will it provide a pale white light, it will also chase away doubt and anxiety in the moment. Many heroes have carried this phial with them into battlefields. It is said to work more effectively with those who are physically weaker or worse fighters than others - though it's far from useless for a seasoned warrior. The more hopeful an individual, the more powerful the light in the phial will be to the point where its light may scorch nearby beasts and burn away corruption from a mind.

What is known with some certainty is that the Alastrians were originally from and island called "Alastria" that sank into the sea, thousands of years ago, lending the Alastrian Sea its name. According to the oral history of the Alastrian people--passed from generation to generation--before the sinking of the island, they were a unified people. Once they lost their homeland and were scattered throughout the realm, they became nomadic packs, usually consisting of one or two mating pairs, and then somewhere between fifteen and twenty individual adults.

SERENITY GARDEN

Type of Location: Business (with a house above)
Location: Willful Machine
Lamp Location: No
Identifiers: Serenity is identifiable, both by the sheer volume of fruit trees around the orchard borders and by three long, flowing flags in bright colors, dangling from a ring off of the cinnamon tree.
Hours of Operation: 8 am - 8 pm
Employees/Roommates: Ariadne; hiring anyone who wants to work as a gardener or shopkeeper
Means of Contact: The business contact is Ariadne's personal inbox.
Serenity is an flower and herb garden on the very edge of the Willful Machine, set slightly apart from the heaviest concentration of stalls. There are two parts of the garden, the orchard and the shop.

The orchard is ringed by fruit trees, magically transferred over from Deerington. Ariadne has taken great care of these trees, which seem nearly indestructible, for some reason. Each tree is accompanied by a small plaque, listing the tree's name. Yes, Ariadne names the trees. And sometimes talks to them. If she's mad at them, she'll yell at them by name.

  • Pear Tree ("Sophia")
  • Nectarine Tree ("Jane")
  • Plum Tree ("Toby")
  • Cinnamon Tree ("Araceli")
  • Orange Tree ("Morgan")
  • Lemon Tree ("Dagmar")
  • Cherry Tree ("Sara")
  • Apricot Tree ("Tyler")
  • Almond Tree ("Zabrina")
  • Pomegranate Tree ("Alison")
  • Avocado Tree ("Kevin")
  • Non-magic Avocado Tree ("Riot")
  • Additional plants include:
  • A rosebush ("Sunny")
  • Herba viridiae arklayensi ("Renado")
  • The interior of the garden is a cozy area, divided up by a variety of herb bushes. Tucked under the shade of trees and nestled in between shrubs, there are iron benches, colorful pillows, and little tables, for people who need to sit alone and clear their minds. Anyone who wishes to spend time in the garden is welcome.

The shop is the lower floor of Ariadne's home, which has been converted into a single great room, ringed with countertops. Across them, one can find a variety of dried herbs and fruits, picked from the orchard. In the middle of the room, there are a series of tables, with fresh cut flowers in a variety of mismatched vases. Some of them are real vases, others are just jars or pretty containers Ariadne's encountered. In the far, right-hand corner as you enter, there's a roped-off metal spiral staircase that leads to Ariadne's apartment, above. © tessisamess

    ⇓in character⇓

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Go for it. But be aware that Ariadne has very strong feelings regarding touching people's palms, since that's a deep form of affection and commitment in her culture. She will pull back if someone tries to take or hold her hand, without permission.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: She won't like it, but she'll fight back. Go ahead.

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: Yes, please. She may not understand she's being flirted with, but that's half the fun.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Love foreplay, love aftercare, but I do tend to do fade-to-black in the middle.

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: Message me first. Her mind is a confusing place and this could backfire.

    MAGIC/POWERS: Ask first.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: If your character has a way to look into her biology, go for it. As an Alastrian, there are the ways that she differs from a "baseline" human:
  • Incredibly high metabolism, to the point where she processes alcohol too quickly to get drunk
  • No uterus or ovaries
  • Nearly three times the number of nerve endings, especially in the hands
  • Two additional bones coming off of her shoulderblades, that would indicate missing appendages
  • Two very long scars on her back that appear to be surgical in nature
  • Signs of malnourishment

  • OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: General racism and intolerance upsets her. Child endangerment. And she's not a huge fan of fire, although she can deal with it.

    ⇓out of character⇓

    BACKTAGGING: Yes!

FOURTH WALLING: She's an OC, so it's a little hard to do, but if you have your heart set on it, I'm good with it. I've got loads of information on her home realm available.

    THREADHOPPING: Yes!

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR, BUT CAN STILL PLAY: Pregnancy-related plots.

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR AND THAT I CAN'T PLAY: Um, I don't especially love reading descriptions of primary sex organs.

ANYTHING ELSE: I'm really shy about approaching folks, but I'm always happy to plot and answer questions.

This is probably one of the most valuable items your character can acquire in game, but it is difficult to obtain. Not only does it cost 1,000 points, but it demands that your character go through a bit of a process to obtain it. But first: what is it? That's a good question. A stabilizing gem helps characters with powers restore some regularity to their warped power- but not all. Enough for a character to be able to depend reliably on their gifts once more as they used to. They still won't be able to leave the town though. For characters without powers? This rock will help you through psychological horror situations. It won't help completely, but you'll find it easier to deal with hallucinations and other psychological-based horrors when you're clutching this gem. You will be able to center yourself quicker and focus sharper.

Now how to get it. First you cough up the 100 points. Then your character will encounter a white raven sitting on top of your Blessings Basket. This raven will seem extremely intelligent, watching your character and being perfectly calm even as your character approaches. It'll hop off the basket after a while and caw a word that sounds very much like 'gift'. It will follow your character around and hop at your character until your character picks it up. It'll settle down then, and after a second of staring some more at your character, it will gently touch its beak to the center of their forehead.

That's when the pain starts. It'll be a violent, skull-crunching pain. The raven vanish like smoke between your character's fingers. The pain will radiate all the way down the spine and into the shoulders and the rest of their body, ultimately bringing them to their knees. It will feel like the entire world is crushing down against them. Then the ripping feeling will start. It'll feel the front of your character's forehead is literally splitting open, but from what? When your character finally touches the center of their forehead where the raven had touched, they will find it incredibly hard. Some deep-rooted, inexplicable urge will seize your character and they will dig their fingers into their own forehead. Only that's just what it will feel like- your character will not literally be doing this, though it will feel exactly as if they were.

Then they'll feel the smooth shape of something. Pulling it out will be a miserable endeavor, the pain getting much worse, but the moment your character dislodges the stone from their forehead, the pain will vanish as quickly as the raven had. Then in their hand will be a unique, perfect looking stone that feels warm to the touch, and even pulsing. Their forehead will be completely fine, but boy, they sure won't forget that pain soon. While there may be no explanation with the gem, the character will automatically feel protective of it and like they should keep it close. They must be touching the stone directly in order to use their abilities more regularly again or to calm themselves down.

Stones can break, but trust me, no one wants that. If your character's stone breaks, so does that character. Literally. They will shattered into rock-edged shards. Thankfully it's pretty hard to break these stones. If your character's stone is broken, they can always get a new one. But they may only get three stones max.

Ariadne's rooftop garden is located on the roof of the David Cliff Apartments in the Brahms neighborhood:
  • Pear Tree ("Sophia")
  • Nectarine Tree ("Jane")
  • Plum Tree ("Toby")
  • Cinnamon Tree ("Araceli")
  • Orange Tree ("Morgan")
  • Lemon Tree ("Dagmar")
  • Cherry Tree ("Sara")
  • Apricot Tree ("Tyler")
  • Almond Tree ("Zabrina")
  • Pomegranate Tree ("Alison")
  • Avocado Tree ("Kevin")

  • The trees were part of Ariadne's rewards and have the dream add-on so that the trees survive, no matter what the game or players throw at them.
